Hello Bello | Are The Ingredients As Safe As You Think?

Hello Bello is the newest baby care line, boasting clean and safe ingredients. But are their products really as safe as you think they are? Are the diapers truly safe and non-toxic? What about the wipes?

The premise of the Hello Bello brand, founded by Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, is that safe baby products should be affordable and accessible by all. The “affordable, plant-based” products are sold exclusively at Wal-Mart (as well as on the Hello Bello website).

Hello Bello’s Claims

The marketing tagline most associated with the Hello Bello brand is “Premium, Plant-Based Products for All“.

More details about the ingredients are found on their website:

“Good-Bye Bad Stuff: Things like parabens, phthalates, and other risky ingredients have no place in products you use on your baby”

We prioritize ingredients that are safe and effective and we avoid chemicals of concern. Sometimes that means avoiding chemicals that have been linked to human health issues, sometimes it’s chemicals linked to environmental or sourcing issues, and sometimes it’s chemicals that consumers increasingly want to avoid. You’ll find a detailed ingredient list on every product page, as well as a list of the chemicals we said Goodbye to.”

A Closer Look at Hello Bello’s Ingredients | Are They Non-Toxic?

Just like with any brand, you can’t take a company’s broad statements on ingredients for face value. Any company can legally use labels like “safe” and “non-toxic” to describe their products, as there are no regulations on this verbiage.

I am very happy that these diapers don’t contain parabens or phthalates. But I wanted to take a closer look at the ingredients to see if they truly are a safe, non-toxic brand.

I will focus on Hello Bello’s diapers and wipes, as these are the two items from the line that represent the largest and most recurring costs for parents.

In Depth Analysis

Hello Bello Diapers | Are They Safe?

The verdict is still out.

But for now, it’s a no from me.

Unfortunately, by law diaper manufacturers are not required to disclose what materials and ingredients are used in their diapers. At this point, Hello Bello has yet to release their diaper ingredients.

Hello Bello states on their website “You’ll find a detailed ingredient list on every product page,” but this is simply not true.

There is no ingredient list for their diapers listed yet online or on the diaper packaging itself.

In reaching out to the company, Hello Bello states that they are currently awaiting a full ingredient list from their supplier.

They do seem willing to provide the full ingredients to consumers once they receive it.

It does seem a bit odd to me that Hello Bello doesn’t have an ingredients list, yet heavily promotes their clean and safe ingredients. But perhaps they’ve set parameters with their suppliers on what clean and safe ingredients are allowed, and they are just finalizing which ones are being used?

I am eager to see the list of full ingredients once they are released. But until then, the verdict is still out on just how clean and safe the diaper ingredients are.

I personally am going to hold off on purchasing until I can find out more.

Bottom-Line: Diaper brands that don’t disclose their ingredients are a no-go in my book. Plain and simple.

Hello Bello Wipes | Are They Safe?

Yes.

Unlike with their diapers, Hello Bello does disclose what ingredients are used in their wipes.

It states on the Hello Bello website that the wipes are “Made with 99%+ pure water with a touch of organic aloe and a wee bit of chamomile extract.”

The full ingredient list is as follows:

  1. Water (Aqua)
  2. Gluconolactone
  3. Sodium Benzoate
  4. Hydroxyacetophenone
  5. Aloe Vera Extract*
  6. Chamomile Extract*
  7. Decyl Glucoside
  8. Polyaminopropyl biguanide
  9. Ethylhexylglycerin

*denotes Organic

Below are the ratings given by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) for each of the ingredients. EWG rates ingredients from 1-10, with 1 being a low hazard and 10 being a high hazard.

  1. Water (Aqua)
  2. Gluconolactone - 1
  3. Sodium Benzoate - 3
  4. Hydroxyacetophenone - 1
  5. Aloe Vera Extract* - 1-3
  6. Chamomile Extract* - 1
  7. Decyl Glucoside - 1
  8. Polyaminopropyl biguanide - 1
  9. Ethylhexylglycerin - 1

I also did research outside the EWG, and found no issues with these ingredients.

Bottom-line: I would use the Hello Bello wipes on my child.

Hopefully this was informative and helpful. I urge you to reach out to Hello Bello and request their diaper ingredients! Or maybe they will see this post and release them!

In a previous post, I brought attention to Hello Bello’s deceptive marketing practices and someone from Hello Bello must have read it, because only days later they corrected the issue. To read that post, click here: Buyer Beware | The Shocking Truth About Hello Bello Diapers

Easter Basket Ideas for Toddlers

Featuring non-toxic and sustainably made items

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. PLEASE READ MY DISCLOSURE FOR MORE INFO.

Here’s a helpful guide of Easter Basket ideas for your toddler. Some more practical, some more fun, but all safe and non-toxic!

Potty Training Supplies

In a previous post, I’ve talked about other things to consider gifting children before toys. Potty training supplies falls under one of those categories (practical items). Potty training supplies are something you would be getting regardless, so why not include them as part of an Easter gift. Besides, it may add some excitement value for your child when it comes to the potty.

We have these “training unders” as they’re called from Hanna Anderson. They are made of organic cotton ribbknit (STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®). They have other cute prints (and solids) as well!

Under the Nile also makes organic cotton training pants I recommend. They are GOTS certified.

Blocks

Blocks are such a great open ended toy. This set is absolutely gorgeous! This brand (GLÜCKSKÄFER) is made in Germany with high-quality, non-toxic, materials.

Wooden Animals

Wooden animals are a great toy staple. They are sturdy, non-toxic (depending on the brand) and will provide hours and hours of play due to their open-ended nature.

Here’s some “Easter” themed wood animals made by Holztiger, but any animal would make a great addition to an Easter basket. Ostheimer is another great brand, just slightly more expensive. To learn more about these companies, check out my post Ostheimer Vs. Holztiger.

Peg People

Peg people (or peg dolls) are another great open-ended toy perfect for an Easter basket filler. These are a great option made by Grapat. They are not only colorful, but made with non-toxic materials.

Art Supplies

Art supplies are another great gift for kids. These non-toxic crayons are a great option. They are made of organic beeswax in the United States.
