Can You Take a Doona on a Plane?

Taking the Doona on board an airplane

Yes, the Doona car seat stroller can be taken on the plane. It is FAA approved. (You will need to buy an extra ticket if you plan on bringing the Doona on the plane to be used during the flight).

The Doona can only be used without the base on an airplane. This means the Doona has to be installed using the lap belt method of installation through the carrier.

Make sure you familiarize yourself with the lap belt installation process before your trip. Though fairly easy, the airplane should not be the first time you try your hand at installing the Doona using a seat belt. Keep in mind, you’ll also need to use this installation method at your final destination too. (Granted, you can bring your base along to use at your destination, but you can’t use it on the plane. The base is pretty heavy and cumbersome. so we don’t recommend traveling with it!)

You shouldn’t have any trouble using the Doona on the plane, as it will fit on most airplanes.

The Doona is super popular among parents and especially great for airplane travel.

The Doona can even be strolled down the aisle of most airplanes!

Checking the Doona on the airplane

If you want to bring your Doona to have at your final destination, but don’t want to bring in on board the plane, you can do that too!

Just like with any car seat, you can “check” the car seat and have it stowed underneath the plane with the luggage.

Every U.S. airline will allow you to check a car seat free of charge.

We recommend using a car seat bag to better protect the car seat from dirt, grime, scuff and damage (though you always run the risk of damage when you check a car seat or stroller, just like you do with your normal luggage). Doona sells their own car seat travel bag, but you can also find other brands that will fit the Doona- just read the reviews.

SUMMARY - Bring the Doona on a Plane

In summary, yes, you can bring your Doona on a plane, whether you want to bring it on board or check it to your final destination.

The Doona makes a great travel car seat / travel stroller, since it’s a car seat and stroller in one! This means one less thing you have to lug around with when traveling.
