Lifespan of the Doona

Unfortunately, the lifespan of the Doona is relatively short.

Like with most infant car seats, the lifespan is about a year. We can’t give an exact length of time the Doona can be used for. This is all dependent on the specifics of each child.

Children can use the Doona until they exceed one of three limits:

1)  32 inches in height OR

2) 35 pounds OR

3) less than 1 inch of space between the top of the child’s head and the top of the car seat.

Once your child meets any of the criteria listed above, you can no longer use the Doona.

You’re likely going to be able to use the Doona for about a year. Depending on the growth of your child, you could get less or more time out of the Doona.

Keep in mind, once the child meets one of the criteria for outgrowing the Doona, you can not use the Doona as either a car seat or a stroller anymore.

The fact that the Doona has a short lifespan is one of the “Cons” of buying the Doona. To check out all our Pros & Cons of the Doona, click here:

Expiration Date of the Doona

The Doona has a 6 year expiration date (after the date of manufacture).

There is a sticker on the bottom of the Doona that shows both the expiration date and manufacture date.

Here’s an example of what to look for, from the Doona website:

Doona’s expiration date of 6 years is pretty typical of car seats. Car seats generally have an expiration date ranging from 6-10 years, depending on the brand and specific model.

If you plan on having multiple children, consider you may be able to use the Doona for multiple children down the road.

What AGE Do You Stop Using the Doona?

There is no specific age that you stop using the Doona

Instead, it’s dependent on the child.

You have to stop using the Doona once your child meets one of these three criteria:

  1. 32 inches in height OR
  2. 35 pounds OR
  3. There’s less than 1 inch of space between the top of the child’s head and the top of the car seat

Once your child meets any of the criteria listed above, you can no longer use the Doona.

Can You Keep Using the Doona as a Stroller Only?

No, you can not keep using the Doona as a stroller once your child outgrows the car seat. Doona is not like your traditional car seat/stroller “travel systems”. With the traditional travel systems, the car seat simply connects to a stroller that can be used once the child outgrows the car seat.

The Doona car seat and stroller are one-in-the-same.
