New Winter 2020 Montessori-Friendly Products at IKEA

It’s no secret that IKEA is one of our favorite stores, especially for affordable Montessori-friendly products. IKEA released a bunch of great new Montessori-friendly products in 2020. We picked out our favorite ones and rounded them all up in a previous article – New Montessori-Friendly Items at IKEA (2020) (CLICK HERE TO READ). Ikea then released even more great products in Fall (Click here to read our favorites!).

And now, in Winter 2020, IKEA released even more products. Many are Christmas-themed, but there are also many new releases that go beyond Christmas.

Favorite New Montessori-Friendly Products from IKEA (Winter 2020)

Here’s our top Montessori-friendly products Ikea released for Winter 2020!

RINNIG Dish Towels: We love the modern and chic look of these new dish towels. Whether used for drying hands or drying dishes, getting children involved in practical kitchen work is aligned with Montessori.

VINTER 2020 Children’s Gingerbread Apron & matching hat: This child-sized apron is perfect for holiday baking! We love the gingerbread theme! The apron is recommended for ages 4 through 7 so it can be a perennial favorite and features kid-friendly velcro fasteners. The chef’s hat is elastic so it will fit a variety of ages (recommended for ages 3 and up).

VINTER 2020 Cookie Cutters & Baking Cups: Involving kids in the kitchen is very much Montessori-aligned. Get kids excited about baking with these cookie cutters and cupcake liners. The cookie cutters can last all year round and outside of the kitchen with play dough or other crafts.

MÅLA Paint: Art is very important in Montessori environments. Open-ended art tools, like paint, allow children to express their creativity at their own pace. We always reach for Ikea art supplies due to their high quality, affordability and high safety standards. We love the new paint Ikea just released. The paint tray even doubles as storage! Genius space saver in typical Ikea fashion!

VINTER 2020 Roll of tape: This colorful tape is made of paper and can be cut or ripped. Perfect for little artists and their art projects! Part of the “Vinter 2020” collection, so if you love it, be sure to pick some up on your next visit, as it won’t be around after the holidays.

JÄTTELIK Coloring roll: Another great new art item from IKEA! This coloring roll features realistic looking dinosaurs. This is perfect if learning about dinosaurs or if you have a dino-lover in the family!

BOLMEN Step stool: The Bolmen step stool is nothing new, but IKEA release a new color this winter – white! We love the new look! Step stools are essential in a Montessori-friendly environment so kids can participate in daily activities (like hand-washing). We love the grips that this step stool provides, so kids can safely use it independently (with adult supervision of course!).

VIKFJÄRD Hand Towel: Hand towels with hooks are often easier for younger children to use independently – they can be hung lower (like on cabinet handles or drawer pulls) and are easier to hang back up. You can easily hang them wherever you want using non permanent hooks like these.

SANELA Room darkening curtains: Black-out curtains are a must-have for any child’s room, Montessori or not. We like these new blackout curtains from IKEA because they are made of 100% cotton and come in a variety of colors – perfect for any decor!

TOFTBYN Mirror: Mirrors are a staple in the Montessori home. It serves various purposes and developmental stages depending on the age of your child. The new TOFTBYN mirror collection from IKEA features “a classical look with moulded edges”. It comes in black or white and in various sizes (not to mention at an affordable price point!). POÄNG Kid’s Armchair: The children’s POÄNG chair got a slight makeover! We have the prior version – it does get some use in our house, but unfortunately isn’t as well-loved as we hoped! LUSTIGKURRE Natural Seagrass Basket: We love this new large seagrass basket from IKEA! It can be used as a clothing hamper or to store toys. For less than $25, it’s a steal! The fact that it’s made of natural materials is also Montessori-aligned. If IKEA isn’t nearby, here are some similar alternatives.

LUSTIGKURRE Cube Basket: We love the stylish, modern design of these baskets which fit perfectly in Kallax shelfs (found in many Montessori homes!). They are both beautiful an functional! We also love that they’re made of natural materials.

LUSTIGKURRE Basket with handles: If you’re looking for some smaller baskets, we love these new ones! They are very stylish, yet sustainably made with bamboo and jute handles.
