Here are our recommended steps to starting a successful blog. These are the same tried and true steps that we used when we started this website! We’ll discuss each step in-depth below.

Don’t talk yourself out of starting a blog before you even start!
2020 isn’t too late to start a blog. There is room for everyone. There is room for YOU!
You have the ability to start a blog and make it successful. You can make money off your blog. Yes, running a successful blog will take time and effort, but it is worth it.
Okay, now that you have a positive mindset, let’s get on to the fun part!
There are a multitude of ways to make money off your blog, but first you need readers.
You need to have some idea about what you are going to write. You can write about multiple topics, but it’s a good idea to have some specific topic ideas. This is called a niche.
One of the best ways to get visitors to your website is through organic traffic – essentially people discovering your content via Google searches. You will want to write content that people are searching for. It can be hard to rank high on Google, and let’s be honest, how many times do you go to the second page of Google results? One way to rank high on Google is with unique content. What can you write about that hasn’t been covered well before and that people are Googling?
Some questions to ask yourself when deciding what to write about:

We went the easy route and suggest you do the same!
We did lots of research and found one of the most popular ways to go about setting up a (profitable) website is starting a WordPress blog on Bluehost.

We know setting up a website seems overwhelming, so we put together step-by-step instructions to walk you through it:
Click here to go to Bluehost. This is what you’ll see. Click the green “Get Started” button.
Next, select your plan. The “basic” is what we use and will likely work for 99.99% of mom bloggers starting out.
Now you get to pick the name of your website! This is called the domain. You can’t choose a domain that already exists.
Don’t get too caught up in this step! It’s easy to get stuck here but don’t let this decision stop you from getting started. It’s less about the name and more about the brand you will build and how you add value to people’s lives.
Once you’ve found an available domain name you like, click next and it will bring you to this screen where you’ll enter your information.
You will also need to enter payment information.
Next, select your package and any extras you want. You’ll get the cheapest price per month if you select the 36 month plan. You can always add the extras later!
Once you’ve bought your package, you’ll be prompted to create a password.
Now click “go to login” and enter your newly created domain name and password.
Next, they’ll ask you a couple more questions, like what you want to name your site – for most this will just be the same as your domain name.
Now you get to choose your WordPress template. There are tons of FREE templates to choose from. Take your time to look through your options, since this is not an easy switch down the road (though it’s definitely possible!).
And that’s it! You’re done! You’ve set up your website for your blog!
Making the website was the easy part. Now comes the hard part. You have to show up. You have to write quality content on a consistent basis. You have to show up and put in the work.
You have to show up when it gets difficult. You have to show up when you have 0 views. You just have to show up.

There’s no right way to do this. The best method is to diversify and employ multiple methods of monetization. However, certain methods of monetization may work better than others depending on your specific site.
Keep in mind, however, that before most bloggers see any significant money, they first have significant views on the site.
This is the part of the process that sets the successful mom bloggers apart from the rest.
Unfortunately, there’s not a magic formula that will guarantee you success.
There’s SO much to learn when it comes to blogging – SEO, graphic design, marketing, etc. We recommend diving in to various blogs, forums or podcasts on the subject to learn as much as you can. As much as we love books, they may not be the best tool for researching all things blogging, as the latest and greatest information on these subjects are constantly changing.
Ultimately, you have to try different methods, see what works and adapt accordingly.
