New Stanley Mug Quencher H2.0 Review

New Stanley Mug | QUENCHER H2.0 FLOWSTATE | Release Date

The new Stanley mugs won’t be released until September 13, 2022

How to Get Your Hands on the New Stanley Mug

The new Stanley mugs, the Quencher H2.0, will initially only be available direct from their website, Stanley1913.comYou can sign-up for e-mail alerts – that’s what we did! We anticipate it will be quite difficult to get your hands on the new Stanley mug, based on history (more on that below, where we get into the popularity of these cups!).

You can currently view the new collection online, but everything is currently unavailable for purchased (marked as sold out, even though it just hasn’t been released yet).

Pay close attention if you’re trying to buy the new version of the Stanley mug, that you don’t accidentally buy the old one. The old version of the mugs (called the Adventure Quencher) are still selling in stores and on-line at the same price of the soon-to-be released new version. In fact, Stanley recently released new colors of the Stanley mug (the old Stanley mug, the Adventure Quencher), which we’ve seen at several local stores. Stanley removed several of the old versions of the cup from their website, but still have the old 4oz, 20 oz and 30 oz tumblers available for sale on their website (with no handles).

The keywords you’ll want to look for when buying the NEW Stanley are “H2.0 Flowstate“. This identifies it as the new version, and not the old version.

Announcement of the New Stanley Mug

Stanley announced the new, upcoming release of the Stanley mug, called the Quencher H2.0 Flowstate, on August 29, 2022.

Here is the link to the official PR statement: Stanley Announces New Hydration Favorite: The Quencher H2.0 FlowState™ Tumbler

Stanley also made announcements on their Instagram and TikTok showing off the new cups.

The cups are also available on Stanley’s official Amazon storefront.

New Stanley Mug | QUENCHER H2.0 FLOWSTATE | What's Changed

Here’s a list of the major changes made to the new Stanley mug:

  1. The Material: The tumbler of the new Stanley is made with 90% 18/8 recycled stainless steel (the old is made with 18/8 stainless steel)
  2. Redesigned Lid: The new lid, called the “FlowState lid”, is more leak-resistant. The straw opening features a silicone opening (the old Stanley had a large straw opening with no silicone)
  3. Comfort Handle: The new handle has a “comfort-grip” on both the outside and inside. This involves a softer material insert on parts of the handle. The handle is available on both the 40 oz and 30 oz. Stanleys (the old handle didn’t have the “comfort-grip” and was only available on the 40 oz.)
  4. Slimmer Base: Stanley refers to this as “Advanced Car Cup-Holder Compatibility”. The base is slimmer to fit in a wider range of cup-holders. For references, the new 40 oz. Stanley mug has a base diameter: 3.1 inches (the old 40 oz. Stanley mug has a base diameter of 3.3 inches)

We also noticed the dimensions changed, ever so slightly. For the 40 oz:

  • Old: 3.8in. L x 5.75in. W x 12.5in. H
  • New: 3.86L x 5.82W x 12.3H in

New Stanley Mug | QUENCHER H2.0 FLOWSTATE | What Stayed the Same

With all the major changes (i.e. improvements) made to the Stanley Quenchers, we thought we would see a change in the price, but are pleasantly surprised. The price of the new Stanley mugs and cups stayed the same!

Another thing that stayed the same is the weight. The 40 oz. Stanley mug weighs 1.4 lbs (in both the old and new versions).

Just like the old Stanley mug, the new Stanley mug is dishwasher safe, BPA-free, double-wall vacuum insulation and a powder coat finish

Both versions of the Stanley mug boast:

  • keeping hot drinks hot for 7 hours
  • keeping cold drinks cold for 11 hours
  • keeping ice for 2 days

New Stanley Mug | QUENCHER H2.0 FLOWSTATE | Improved Leak-Proof Design

Here is a look at the new and improved Stanley lid:

For comparison purposes, here is a look at the old lid:

Old Stanley Lid

Is the New Stanley Mug Actually Leak-Proof

You’ll notice that Stanley doesn’t refer to new Stanley lid as “leak-proof” in the press release or on their website. Instead, they say:

  • “a splash-resistant straw opening and a full-cover closure. Its silicone seal around the straw base is designed to help prevent spills.”
  • “a straw opening designed to resist splashes while holding the reusable straw in place”

The new Stanley mugs/cups (the Quencher H2.0 FlowState) is not actually leak-proof (and doesn’t claim to be),

However, the new Stanley Quencher H2.0 FlowState does leak less than the previous version, the old Adventure Quencher – when the straw is in or it is fully closed.

Here is a Tiktok from @thebuyguide, which shows a comparison between the new and old versions when knocked over:

New Stanley Mug | QUENCHER H2.0 FLOWSTATE | Popularity

Why are Stanley Cups so popular?

The Stanley mugs (formally known as the 40 oz. Adventure Quencher [old]/Quencher H2.0 [new]), have seen a huge rise in popularity the past few years. The rise in popularity has been fueled by social media, but for good reason.

The Stanley mugs are huge, keep water cold, and fit in a car cup holder.

They have a cult-like following, who collect the various colors.

With so many people already owning the old version (Adventure Quencher), many may be wondering if the new lids are compatible with the old cups. The major spills caused by knocking over the Stanley mug are probably the biggest complaint.

FAQ: Is the new Stanley compatible with the old cup? Can you buy the lid separately?

The Good News – YES, the new and improved Stanley Quencher H2.0 lids are compatible with the old cups (Adventure Quencher).

You can find the Stanley Quencher H2.0 lids in the Stanley Amazon store

New Stanley Mug | QUENCHER H2.0 FLOWSTATE | Our Thoughts

Is it worth it?

We plan on buying the new Stanley 40 oz. mug. It’s a great price for a 40 oz. stainless steel insulated cup. Yes, there are other similar brands on the market, but the stand-out feature for us is that it’s cup holder friendly.

This is perfect for busy moms on the go – to bring along while running errands, doing school pick-up and drop-offs. Great for longer road trips too!

We much prefer reusable stainless steel water bottles as opposed to single-use water bottles. We love that this product has hit main-stream popularity! if it means less people using plastic water bottles!

Our favorite thing about the updated Stanley mug is the new and improved lid design. Although we don’t have the old version, this definitely seems like a huge improvement! With kids running around, drinks getting knocked over is inevitable, so at least with the new lid design, the mess will be less!

We do have some concerns over the new “comfort grip”. We like the idea in theory, as it seems it would be more pleasant and comfortable to hold. However, we have concerns about how it will wear and wash. Will the comfort-grips fall off after a while? Will dirt get in between the comfort grip and stainless steel? Will it stain? Wash ok? It also seems like the new handle design will harbor more germs.

Overall, we are very excited to try the new Stanley mug (despite our concerns).

Once we get our hands on one, we will be sure to report back with a full review!
