In this article, we’ll go over everything you need to know about the ever popular Millie Moon diapers. We’ll provide some basic background information on the brand, as well as share our personal review. In general, Millie Moon diapers get very good reviews from parents since their debut in early 2021. Given all the buzz surrounding the new brand we decided to check them out for ourselves!

Millie Moon is a self-proclaimed “luxury” disposable diaper brand sold exclusively at Target stores. They promise to make premium quality diapers at everyday affordable prices that are soft, healthy and comfortable on your baby’s skin. Millie Moon diapers made their introduction to Target in early 2021.
Millie Moon mentions on their website that they have partnered with a national early literacy non-profit organization called Reach Out and Read. From their website: “The Reach Out and Read program not only develops critical early literacy skills in children across the United States, but also promotes positive social-emotional outcomes that contribute to academic success and help children cope with and become resilient to stress.” Millie Moon says they make a donation to the organization with every purchase of any of their products.
On top of all that, Target also has some additional positive certifications on their website they apply to the Millie Moon diapers. Target certifies the diapers as Cruelty free and vegan certified by PETA. They are also “Target Clean” labelled indicating separately from the Millie Moon themselves that the diapers are chlorine and fragrance free. Finally, they are Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX®, which means the diapers have “been independently tested and certified against a list of over 350 harmful chemicals according to strict STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® guidelines.”
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions answered by the Millie Moon company via social media:
Our diapers are designed and developed in New Zealand. They have been crafted with high quality materials that are sourced from around the world and assembled in a world-class factory in China. Producing our product in China allows us to bring our luxury product to families around the world at an affordable price.
As this is our first launch, our focus has been on our original diaper. Any updates or announcements we add to our range in the future will be on our socials.
Yes, our diapers are totally chlorine free!
We were drawn to try Millie Moon diapers due to their “non-toxic” features. We like that they are chlorine-free, fragrance-free and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Certified.
We headed to our local Target and found them displayed prominently on an end cap and immediately noticed the attractive packaging. The box has a clean and high end look to it. Another thing we noticed was that Millie Moon branded diapers have replaced the Target brand of Cloud Island diapers on the shelves.
Replacing Cloud Island with Millie Moon diapers at Target is an interesting move for several reasons. Many families and babies alike love the Cloud Island brand at Target and once they find a great diaper that works, they tend to not want to ever change brands. Parents and diaper brands are like Honda and Toyota owners. They find their brand and they stick to it! However, after trying both Cloud Island and Millie Moon, we think they’re pretty comparable. Cloud Island was a Target-owned brand, while Millie Moon is not a Target-owned brand, but rather exclusively sold at Target. Both have “non-toxic” features that appeal to many parents concerned with toxins and chemicals found in traditional diapers. One difference we noted between Cloud Island vs. Millie Moon is the price. The Cloud Island brand of diapers were slightly cheaper.
Millie Moon also advertises themselves as “luxury diapers”. So what makes a Millie Moon diaper a luxury diaper? According to the company, it’s not a high price but a “well crafted design, high quality materials and aspirational content”. We agree with the well crafted design and high quality materials! We just aren’t totally sure how the aspirational content in a disposable diaper brand works…
After getting them home and opening the box, the first thing we saw was that the diapers came with a small children’s book right on top! The book was a great bonus and it tells the story of the characters featured on the diapers themselves. Our little one absolutely loved the book and still reads it to this day! This also ties in nicely with their “Reach Out to Read Mission”. It feels good knowing that a portion of the purchase goes towards a good cause. This was a nice touch, but not a must-have. We’re thinking (and hoping) this will only be temporary during the initial promotional period of this new brand. Parents certainly won’t want a copy of the same book every time they buy a box of diapers.
Right out of the box, the first thing we noticed about the diapers was how soft they were. Super soft! Probably the softest diaper we have ever tried! It’s so soft that once you pick one up it immediately grabs your attention. You don’t expect a disposable diaper to be so soft and smooth.
Another thing we noticed right away (and love) is the pattern on these diapers. The pattern is gender neutral and very tasteful. Unlike some diaper brands that feature bright and bold prints, Millie Moon diapers are more muted, yet still have a touch of playfulness and whimsy.
Millie Moon says that all of the diapers are free of fragrance, chlorine, latex and any lotions. As parents who are consciously avoid things like fragrance (especially in kid’s products!), we are very happy to see this. This also means that children are less likely to have any negative reactions to these diapers. The fewer ingredients, the better, especially for those babies with sensitive skin. Because of this, the diapers are “Dermatest certified” meaning that they “are free from contact skin allergens and reactors in sensitised volunteers in controlled testing.” That certification gives consumers some extra comfort in knowing that the likelihood of negative skin reactions is minimal before purchasing the diapers. Although we are happy that these diapers don’t contain chlorine, fragrance or any lotion, there is no complete transparency as to the diaper’s full list of ingredients. Unfortunately, this is a common practice in the industry.
In terms of fit and function, the diapers tend to run a bit large. This is noted in several reviews on-line and we noticed this as well. In many cases depending on the brand you are switching from, you may need to try a size down in Millie Moon diapers to get a comparable fit. Millie Moon does have a weight based size guide on their website as well as on the individual boxes of diapers for reference, which we found to be accurate. Millie Moon diapers are also noticeably high waisted when wearing, but they are actually designed to be that way. Millie Moon says that the high waisted design helps prevent leaks. It does make the diapers look a bit different but you get used to it as your little one wears them. We know that different people have different experiences with how diapers fit and function, but we like they way these diapers fit and how they perform. There a couple customer reviews online complaining of the dreaded “poopsplosion”, but we have not had this issue at all. Many reviews actually praise the diapers for their ability to hold massive amounts of soilage, so much so that they feel the company doesn’t need to worry about making overnight diapers. Our experience tends to lean that way as well. We have no complaints when it comes to performance.
One feature that some parents may care about in disposable diapers is the presence of a wetness indicator strip. If this feature is important to you, we’re happy to report that Millie Moon diapers do have a wetness indicator.
We are thoroughly impressed with the overall quality and performance of the Millie Moon diapers. Would we purchase them again? Definitely! Do we think they’re worth the price? Yes. For us, it’s worth the extra cost for a chlorine-free and fragrance-free diaper. These aren’t our first choice for a non-toxic diaper (for that we prefer bamboo), but it’s still a good option and a diaper we feel comfortable using!
