IKEA has tons of Montessori-friendly products. We are constantly shopping at IKEA and browsing the IKEA website. We picked out our favorite Ikea products that are Montessori aligned and new in 2022. We will to continue to update this page as we discover new favorites as they are released this year.

Here’s some of our favorite new (2022) Montessori-friendly Ikea products:
Tray: This is the perfect Montessori tray! Called the FRUKTSKAL, it comes in two different sizes and is made of bamboo. We love that it has handles and is lightweight, making it easy for kids to handle. This is one of our favorite finds and would make a great addition to any Montessori-inspired environment!
Beverage Dispenser: IKEA released this limited edition drink dispenser. This can be used to create a water station in your home so children can independently fill their own water cups. Water dispensers similar to this aren’t new at IKEA. What makes this one unique is the green lid and spout. We love the earth tones!
Forest-themed Quilted Blanket: We love this forest-themed quilted blanket. Perfect for babies and toddlers to lay on, crawl on and play on. One side of the quilt features realistic images of trees, plants, flowers and forest animals to include deers, squirrels and rabbits. We also love that the exterior blanket is made from 100% sustainably grown cotton.
Forest-themed Bedding: This bed set also follows the forest theme. It comes with 3-pieces that fit a crib-sized mattress: a green fitted sheet, forest-themed duvet cover and forest-themed pillow case.
Small Plant Mister: The smallest hands can participate in the practical life skills of watering plants with this mini sized plant mister.
Small, Elevated Cutting Board: This small, elevated cutting board is the perfect addition to a Montessori environment. We like that the cutting board is elevated so the child can easily scrape the cut up food into a small bowl placed beneath it.
Seagrass Basket: The basket itself is not new, but this specific design is new. In fact, this seagrass basket is a widely popular product. And for good reason. The basket is pliable. You can have it turned up with the handles (as shown below), or turned down to display the contents. We love the alternating black design.
Updated Kallax with Legs: Here’s another update of an old favorite, especially among Montessori families. The popular cubed Kallax shelving can now be bought with an “underframe”. This differs from the previous option to just add legs. “The underframe gives the shelving unit an airy and elegant look while making it easier to vacuum under it.”
Console Table: IKEA released this new console table that comes in a light (as shown below) or dark Oak veneer. We like the small footprint of this shelving unit, the natural colors, and the rounded corners (safer for little ones).
Stripped Floor Cushion: Floor cushions make a great addition in a Montessori environment. They provide a kid-sized seating option, made even more kid-friendly by the sewn on handles. We also like that adults can use them too! Some may argue that the colors of these floor cushions are not Montessori-aligned, but it really comes down to personal preference.
Adjustable, Kid-sized desk: We love everything about this new desk from Ikea! “A desk to grow with. Adjustable at 3 different heights and with practical cable management trays for power strips between the table’s legs, it can follow your child from early childhood to adolescence.” There’s also an option to add an attached bookshelf to the desk top.
Kid-friendly Laundry Basket: Involving children in everyday tasks like laundry aligns with Montessori teachings. To make these tasks easier and more kid-friendly, you need the right tools. This new laundry basket from IKEA is very kid-friendly. It’s on the smaller size with pliable handles, making it easier for small hands to carry. It comes in two color options: pink or turquoise.
