We finally took the plunge and bought the Lettuce Grow Farmstand! We’re super excited to give it a go! This came after months and months of trying conventional gardening (with very limited success) as well as lots and lots of research!

There’s just something special about eating food you’ve grown yourself! We love the idea of going to the backyard and picking fresh vegetables off of the Lettuce Grow Farmstand to make a salad. Or grabbing some fresh herbs to add to dinner. It doesn’t get much fresher than this! We also like that this helps increase our independence and reduce our dependency on others.
We bought the largest Lettuce Grow Farmstand, which holds 36 plants. Even with doubling (or tripling) up on several different plants, we are still ending up with a huge variety of vegetables and herbs on our Lettuce Grow Farmstand! We love that it offers the ability to grow so many different kinds of fruits, vegetables and herbs, all of which, use the same system.
Here is just a snip-it of some of the variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs you can grow (from the Lettuce Grow website):
We’re hopeful that having the Lettuce Grow will increase our fresh food intake. Science shows that people who grow their own produce do actually consume more fruits and vegetables (American Journal of Public Health). This is especially true for children. We want to encourage healthy eating habits as best we can. Buying the Lettuce Grow Farmstand will help us achieve this goal. Having a variety of fresh foods at our fingertips will encourage healthy eating for the whole family.
We are aware that growing fresh food with the Lettuce Grow will not be effortless, but it’s definitely going to be easier than traditional gardening. We have tried our hand at conventional gardening and have had such limited success. There is so much room for human error when it comes to the soil and watering. We like that the Lettuce Grow is science-based and as fool-proof as you can make gardening. More beginner-friendly, if you will. It also will take way less time than traditional gardening. We still expect things to go wrong, but we’re hopeful that we will experience more successes than failures.
Here’s a chart we found interesting (and appealing!) from the Lettuce Grow website that breaks down some of the differences between traditional gardening and gardening via the Lettuce Grow Farmstand:
We like that the Lettuce Grow Farmstand takes advantage of vertical space. The Lettuce Grow takes up way less space than a traditional garden, especially considering you can grow up to 36 plants in the same amount of space you could grow only a few with traditional gardening.
Having our child familiar with different fruits and vegetables, as well as how they grow, is important to us. For this reason, we have visited local farms and have made an attempt at backyard gardening. We haven’t had great success with traditional gardening, but we’re very hopeful that we’ll experience success with Lettuce Grow. We want to engage our child in growing our own food.
In addition to the educational aspects of gardening, or in this case, hydroponic gardening with Lettuce Grow, tending to our garden is a good way to spend quality family time together. Gardening in general is a great hobby, as it provides so many benefits on every level.
Hydroponic gardening, like the Lettuce Grow system, typically takes about 90% less water than traditional gardening. Very little water is wasted. Instead, water goes right to the roots to nourish the plants and is pumped and re-used over and over. This makes it much better for the environment!
The Lettuce Grow Farmstand is aesthetically beautiful. We love the clean, minimalistic look of the Lettuce Grow Farmstand. To us, it adds beauty in addition to function!
We learned about this perk in doing our research (there’s a Lettuce Grow community on Facebook we joined). Due to the water being continuously pumped through the Farmstand, there is a pleasant water sound that comes from it. We were thinking of adding a small fountain to our patio to achieve this same sound, but now we don’t have to! The Lettuce Grow Farmstand will add the ambient water noise we’re looking for. We’ve heard that the sound is louder and more prominent when the plants are young and the roots are trimmed, and gets muffled when the roots get longer. Depending on what you’re growing, when the trickling water sound gets muffled, it may be a good indicator that some roots may need trimmed.
