Why A Naturepedic Crib Mattress

Organic

Probably the biggest reason parents choose a Naturepedic crib mattress over other brands is the fact that Naturepedic is organic.  Naturepedic baby crib mattresses feature organic cotton fabric & filling.  In addition to using certified organic components, the entire crib mattress is also certified organic to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).

No Chemical Flame Retardents

All Naturepedic mattresses pass all federal and state flammability standards without the use of any fire retardant chemicals or flame retardant barriers.

Made in America & Great Customer Service

One factor that is important to many conscious consumers is where our products are made.  Naturepedic makes all their mattresses in the United States.  Another plus is that Naturepedic offers a lifetime limited warranty on all their crib mattresses.  Though we’ve never had to reach out to Naturepedic’s customer service personally, they are well-known for making things right when people have issues with their mattresses.

Latex-Free (Allergy Friendly)

Though latex allergies are relatively rare, this can be a pretty serious issue for those affected.  Naturepedic avoids the use of latex in their organic crib mattresses for a more allergen-friendly design specifically for babies and children

Naturepedic mattresses also don’t contain soy or wool.

Naturepedic Crib Mattress Options Explained

What's the difference between the different Naurepedic Crib mattresses? | Options explained

So you’ve decided on a Naturepedic crib mattress – good choice!  But now you have to figure out which version to get.  Yes, there are multiple options! It can be quite confusing and overwhelming.  First, let’s cover some of the terminology that Naturepedic uses to describe the different features in their crib mattresses.  This will help you make sense of the different options.

Lightweight vs. 150 Coils vs. 252 Coils

The lightweight mattresses don’t contain traditional mattress coils.  Instead, the mattress is made with layers of organic cotton batting.  Because of this, the lightweight Naturepedic mattresses are nearly 10 pounds lighter than the coiled crib mattresses.  Naturepedic calls this WaveSupport technology.

If you get a mattress with coils, Naturepedic offers two options: 150 coils or 252 coils.  The number represents the number of coils.  The difference between the two is that mattresses with 252 coils are firmer (and more expensive).

Naturepedic Coils 150 vs 252

2-Stage

Also often referred to as “dual firmness,” the Naturepedic 2-stage crib mattresses have two different levels of firmness – one side is meant for infants and one side is softer for toddlers.

Waterproof vs. Ultra vs. Ultra Breathable vs. Quilted

One feature found in some Naturepedic crib mattresses is the “waterproof” finish.  These mattresses have a patented waterproof surface made without harmful chemicals for a hygienic design that is easy to clean.   The waterproof surface is made of 100% food-grade polyethylene. (Note that the seams are not waterproof, unless you get the “seamless” feature – more on that below!)

“Ultra” is another option for the outer layer of Naturepedic crib mattresses.  It’s described by Naturepedic as a “nicer finish”.  This is also waterproof.

“Ultra Breathable” is another option.  This is simply the “Ultra” mattress, as described above, plus a removable cotton mattress pad.  The Ultra Breathable Mattress Pad features organic cotton fiber over a breathable layer of mesh and is designed to maximize airflow between the baby and the mattress. This breathable surface keeps the baby cool and dry for a more comfortable sleep with less risk of overheating.

“Quilted” is another finish available on the Naturepedic crib mattress.  However, you will only this feature on their “2-stage” mattresses and the quilted finish will only be on the softer, toddler side.  Quilted is your typical finish found on most mattresses and is not waterproof.

Seamless

You can get a crib mattress with seamless edges.  As previously mentioned, the seams of the waterproof Naturepedic mattresses are not waterproof, unless you get one that says seamless.  Naturepedic claims that their heat sealed waterproof seams prevent moisture and dust mite/bed bug penetration through the sewn holes and seams.  Another claim is that it makes the mattress more durable as it reduces the possibility of the seam tearing or threads breaking or unraveling.
