Good Time Plastic Free Soap and Shampoo Bar Review

We gave the newest set of body soap and shampoo bars from Good Time a spin. After sampling all the bars we came away with a solid conclusion.

What is Good Time Soap?

Good Time is a new brand of unisex body and shampoo bars that are designed to be eco friendly and luxurious to use. The Good Time company is an officially certified B-Corp. To be a Certified B Corp, a company must apply and meet high social and environmental standards. Good Time is also committed to carbon neutral shipping and donating 50% of its profits to WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) initiatives.

Plastic Free Packaging

Both the shipping box materials and the individual box the Good Time soaps come in are completely plastic free. This is important to us because we try to reduce plastic waste in our everyday life. It doesn’t help or feel as good when we buy products from clean brands and still have unnecessary plastic waste in the packaging. Thankfully, all the Good Time products are packaged without plastic and the company also uses carbon neutral shipping.

Soap Bars Intead of Bottles

With the soaps and shampoos in the form of bars instead of the typical plastic bottles (even if recycled plastic is used), it reduces the need for plastic overall. We even find that when we use bars instead of liquid, the bars last much longer. Good Time estimates that each bar replaces approximately 3 plastic bottles. To us that is a win win!

The Good Time Body Bars

Currently Good Time has three body bars to choose from: Summer’s Here, Big Sky and Morning Light. They are all unisex, vegan and cruelty free. Creating unisex bath products can be hard since the typical men’s scents have traditionally been very different than those of women’s products. We think Good Time has perfected the balance with all three bars creating a very gender neutral and simply fresh smelling product.

Summer's Here Body Bar

Good Time describes the Summer’s Here bar as being “Transported to a warm summer’s day with a mix
of oils infused with parsley flakes and loofah strands for light exfoliation. Smells like
bergamot, tangerine and juniper berry that is bright, revitalizing and soothing.” We pretty much agree with the description of the body bar. To our untrained noses Summer’s Here smells very fresh and light with a very faint bit of men’s cologne. The full list of ingredients that make up the scent is pictured below.

One thing we like about the Good Time Summer’s Here body bar is that it lathers very well and very quickly. We get a LOT of uses out of a single bar! The scent of the bar when bathing is enough to give your shower and skin a nice aroma but it isn’t at all powerful enough to interact with any fragrance you may use after your shower. That can’t be said for many other bars of soap.

Big Sky Body Bar

Good Time says the Big Sky body bar “adds an earthy feel to shower time, infused with charcoal and sea kelp, with notes of oils including pine needle, cedarwood, sandalwood and vetiver. Cosy and warm.” We like the smell of this bar a lot and think it has a perfect scent for winter. Big Sky ingredients are in image below.

As far as we can tell Good Time’s Big Sky lathers identically to the Summer’s Here body bar and is formulated with the scent equally as strong and long lasting in the shower and on skin as the other bars.

Morning Light Body Soap Bar

Good Time’s description of the Morning Light body bar: “Wake up slowly with the Morning Light bar infused
with calendula petals and orange peel, notes of mandarin oil, thyme oil, lemon oil and
eucalyptus oil. Calming, fresh and rich.”

We find that Good Time’s Morning Light body bar smells like a natural version of a five star hotel spa soap.  To us this is a very good thing. Morning Light lathers just as well as the other two bars and the scent strength is about the same.

Shampoo and Conditioner Bars

Good Time makes individual shampoo and conditioner bars that are also packaged completely without any plastics.  Unlike the body bars, there is currently a single shampoo or conditioner bar option. They are both Summer’s Here bars. The bars can be purchased on their website both singularly or as a duo.

Just like the Good Time body bars, the shampoo and conditioner bars tend to last much longer than traditional bottled shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo and conditioner bars are also still free of parabens, sulfates and preservatives. The complete Good Time shampoo bar ingredient list can be found in the image below:

The Good Time conditioner bar is packaged in the same way and is the same color as the shampoo bar. Of course when you are in the shower the boxes will not be there to  help you tell the shampoo from the conditioner bar. Good Time cleverly made the shampoo bar round and the conditioner bar square to help identify which bar is which.

The conditioner bar is 1 ounce smaller at 2 ounces than the 3 ounce shampoo bar. Even though they are different sizes both bars seem to last about the same amount of time in the shower. Both the shampoo and conditioner bars lather very well and quickly just like the body bars.

The Verdict

We like all three of the Good Time body bars equally. In fact, we like them so much that we bought a few of the variety boxes to give out as gifts. None of the soap bars leave any residue on your skin after rinsing and don’t dry out your skin. We noticed that all three bars behave in pretty much the same way on our skin with the exception of scent. You can’t really go wrong with any of them. Our only minor issue is that although the Good Time bars are reasonably priced at $12, you don’t get free shipping on the website until you spend $25. Maybe one day we will be able to pick up single bars in retail stores but until then we are buying multiple bars at a time to save on shipping.
