Flame retardants are toxic chemicals that are linked to thyroid disruption, memory and learning problems, delayed mental and physical development, lower IQ, advanced puberty, hormone disruption and reduced fertility.

Flame retardants are historically found in car seats, as car seats are required to pass a federal flammability requirement (FMVSS 302).

However, flame retardants in car seats are no longer as commonplace as they once have been.  Due to the increased concerns with flame retardants on our health, some car seat manufacturers have found alternate ways to meet the flammability standards without the use of chemical flame retardants.
