Buying the Mockingbird Stroller at Target | Everything You Need to Know | Pros & Cons

We’re big fans of Mockingbird and their products. They have disrupted the stroller industry by offering high-quality products at affordable prices. One of the ways they were able to accomplish this was with their “direct-to-consumer” business model. But now, they’ve expanded to one of our favorite big-box stores, Target!

In this article we’ll tell you everything you need to know about buying the Mockingbird Stroller at Target!

The Stroller

Below are the details of the specific Mockingbird Stroller & products that are available at Target:

Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller

The specific model of the Mockingbird stroller available at Target is the Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller. This is a convertible stroller that starts as a single and can be converted to a double with the purchase of the second seat kit (also available at Target).

The Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller is essentially a knock-off of the popular UPPAbaby Vista V2 stroller. We actually found the Mockingbird to be the better stroller in our Mockingbird Double vs. UPPAbaby comparison. It’s less than half the price of the UPPAbaby Vista!

The Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller is available in 3 different colors at Target: Black, Sea and Sky. The interior of the canopy is white with a black criss-cross pattern (Mockingbird calls this pattern “windowpane”). The stroller handle bar and lap bar come in the color “penny leather”, a light brown color. Sidenote: it’s not actually leather, but a vegan leatherette.

The Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller costs $450.

Mockingbird 2nd Seat Kit

To convert the Mockingbird Single-to-Double to a double stroller, you will need to purchase the 2nd Seat Kit. The Mockingbird 2nd Seat Kits costs $145 and comes in the same color options as the stroller.

Mockingbird Accessories at Target

Target will also have the following 3 Mockingbird accessories for sale: Snack Tray, Cup Holder and Rain Cover.

Release Date

The Mockingbird stroller is available for purchase at Target starting August 17, 2021.

Prior to this, the Mockingbird strollers have only been available on their website. Mockingbird is not sold at any other retailer.

Pros & Cons of Buying Mockingbird at Target

Pros of Buying the Mockingbird Stroller at Target

1. Ability to see it in-person

This is probably the biggest complaint with the Mockingbird stroller prior to the release at Target – the inability to see the product in person. Despite the 30-day trial period (where you can use the product for 30 days then return it for a full refund if you don’t like it), many consumers simply like to see and touch a product before purchasing. This is especially true for strollers. We like that many Target stores will now have the Mockingbird stroller on display so you can really get a feel for it before buying it.

2. Add it to your Target baby registry

Another major reason we love seeing the Mockingbird Single-to-Double in Target is because you can seamlessly add it to your Target baby registry. The major benefit to this is it obviously allows friends and family to buy items. Target’s baby registry does have a “universal” feature where you can add products from any website (including the Mockingbird website). But the benefit of Target now carrying select Mockingbird products is that you can take advantage of the 15% completion coupon as well as the free returns/exchanges from anything bought off your registry for a year.

3. Same price as on-line

The price of the Mockingbird products is the same at Target and their website. You don’t have to worry about paying more.

4. Same lifetime warranty

No matter where you buy the Mockingbird stroller, whether it’s from Target or the Mockingbird website, you’re covered by their amazing lifetime warranty.

5. Cheaper if you have a Red Card

One major benefit and advantage to buying the Mockingbird Single-to-Double stroller (as well as any other Mockingbird products) from Target, is that you can save some money (5%) if you have the Target Red Card.

Cons of Buying the Mockingbird Stroller at Target

There are some drawbacks to buying the Mockingbird stroller at Target instead of direct from Mockingbird that you should be aware of.

1. Less customizable

You should be aware that there are more variations of the Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller on the Mockingbird website that aren’t available at Target. There are many more ways to customize this stroller. In fact, that’s one of the things we like about this brand. Unlike most stroller brands, there are so many ways in which you can customize this stroller. However, it’s just not feasible to offer all the variations when you’re selling in stores understandably so, Mockingbird has limited and streamlined their offerings at Target.

On the Mockingbird website, you can customize the interior of the canopy, as well as the color of the handlebars and lap bar.

Customize Mockingbird Stroller - Not at Target

On the Mockingbird website only, you can get the stroller with the “Watercolor Drops” pattern on the interior of the canopy, as well as “black leather” handlebar and lap bar.

Mockingbird will sometimes carry limited edition offerings as well. However, Target does not currently carry the limited edition products.

Currently, there is a limited color available (only on the Mockingbird website) – “Bloom”, a dusty pink color.

Below shows the Mockingbird Single-to-Double with all the options not currently available at Target – the “Bloom” canopy (limited edition), the “Watercolor Drops” canopy and the black leather handlebar and lap bar:

2. No 30-day trial period

When you buy directly from the Mockingbird website, you get a 30-day trial period, where you can use the product for 30 days then return it for a full refund if you don’t like it. This is unusual for many stroller brands and a great feature of the Mockingbird brand!

Unfortunately, there is no 30-day trial when you buy the Mockingbird stroller from Target. The standard Target return policy applies. This includes the fact that returned items must be unopened and new condition.

3. No $20 bundle discount

When you buy both the Single-to-Double Stroller as well as the 2nd Seat Kit from the Mockingbird website at the same time, a $20 “bundle discount” is applied. You don’t get this discount if you buy from Target.

4. No "pre-order" if out of stock

The Mockingbird website allows you to buy their products, even if they aren’t currently in stock. They call this “pre-order” and there’s an estimated ship time provided at the time of purchase. We like this because you don’t have to keep checking back if something is currently out of stock. You can pre-order it and get your place in line! Target does not have this feature on all the products.

5. Not all Mockingbird products are available

Target does not carry all the products that Mockingbird carries. This goes beyond just the customizable options of the Mockingbird stroller that we mentioned above.

Mockingbird Products Not Currently Available at Target

Here’s the full list of Mockingbird products that currently aren’t available at Target:

Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller in Limited Edition Colors & Customizable Options

As mentioned above, Mockingbird occasionally comes out with limited edition versions of their stroller. You won’t find these limited editions at Target, but instead have to buy directly from the Mockingbird website.

Currently, there is a limited edition color available – a light, dusty pink color called “Bloom”.

There are also they ways in which you can customize the Mockingbird stroller that aren’t available at Target, which we mentioned above (different canopy interior & handle bar colors).

Mockingbird Single Stroller

Mockingbird sells a single stroller (that does not convert to a double) for a slightly lower price point, $395. This is comparable to the UPPAbaby Cruz and is a good option if you don’t need the double stroller feature.

Car Seat Adapters

The Mockingbird strollers are compatible with a long list of car seats, but the necessary adapters are only available on the Mockingbird website.

Bassinet and Bassinet Stand

Mockingbird has a Bassinet that can be purchased separately. The Bassinet allows you to use the Mockingbird stroller from birth. It comes in the same color options as the stroller.

Both the Mockingbird Bassinet and Bassinet Stand are lightweight, making them easy to move around. You can use the Bassinet bed-side at night, then easily move the Bassinet and Bassinet Stand around the house for a safe, portable, place for naps throughout the day.

Infant Seat Insert

The infant seat insert also allows you to use the Mockingbird strollers from birth. It also includes the “Seat Liner” mentioned below.

Even More Mockingbird Accessories

  • Parent Organizer – a perfect spot to put your cell phone, keys, etc.
  • Seat Liner – a removable and washable liner; also offers extra padding
  • Hand Muff – keeps the caregiver’s hands warm
  • Foot Muff – keeps the child warm
  • Mosquito Net – keeps the child protected from mosquitos

One thing to note before you run out to your local Target to see the Mockingbird Stroller...

Know it’s not in EVERY Target store.

Here’s a tool to help you find the closet Mockingbird in-store to you.

It may not be in your closest Target store. This is the case for us. However, it’s available in a nearby Target that’s still a reasonable distance away. This may be the case for you as well. And for some, the Mockingbird may not be in any nearby Target. For those who find themselves in this situation, keep in mind you can still order the Mockingbird stroller direct from their website and take advantage of the 30-day trial period.

Details on the Mockingbird Double Stroller

  4. Flip-flop friendly brake

We also found the Mockingbird Single-to-Double to be very comparable to the luxury, $1,000+ UPPAbaby Vista stroller, for less than half the price. See the detailed comparison here.

Final Thoughts

We are so excited to see Mockingbird products at Target! Even if the selection is limited. We think it’s the perfect collaboration, as both “Mockingbird and Target share the belief that today’s parents should be able to get high quality products for their baby, at a fair price.” Target’s motto of “Expect More. Pay Less” definitely aligns with the Mockingbird brand and philosophy!
