Major Differences | Vista vs. Cruz

The major difference between the Vista and Cruz, is that the Cruz is a single stroller, while the Vista can convert to a double stroller.  However, you must purchase the double seat separately.

Additionally, the Vista comes with a baby bassinet that clips into the stroller frame, while the Cruz does not.

Cheaper?

The starting price for the UppaBaby Cruz is $550, while the starting price for the UppaBaby Vista is $900.

For this price, however, you’re getting more with the Vista, as it comes with a bassinet.  To better compare apples to apples, you can purchase the bassinet separately to pair with the Cruz.  The bassinet sells by itself for $190 (starting price), which brings the total of the Cruz (with bassinet) to $740.  This is still considerable cheaper than the Vista.

There are some fabric/color options that are slightly more expensive.  More on that later.

Winner:  UppaBaby Cruz  The UppaBaby Cruz is significantly cheaper than the Vista, even when you purchase the additional bassinet.

Better for Multiple Children?

You can purchase a board for both the Vista and Cruz to be used for toddlers to stand on the back of the stroller and ride along.  UppaBaby calls this the “PiggyBack Ride-Along Board”.  The concept is the same, but each model has their own board specific to it.  The Vista’s PiggyBack Ride-Along Board costs $120 and the one for the Cruz costs $100.

The weight capacity of the PiggyBack Ride-Along Boards is 50 pounds.

As previously mentioned, the major differentiator between the UppaBaby Vista and Cruz is that the Vista has the ability to convert to a double stroller.  In order to do this, you need to purchase the second seat separate (called a rumble seat), which costs $190-$200, depending on the color.  It’s also recommended you purchase “upper adapters” ($20) to make more room between the two seats.

Design Options?

The 2019 UppaBaby Vista has 9 color options, while the Cruz has 6.

Here are the 9 color options for the Vista:

  1.  BRYCE (white marl)
  2.  EMMETT (green melange)
  3.  GREGORY (blue melange)
  4.  HENRY (blue marl)
  5.  JAKE (black)
  6.  JORDAN (charcoal melange)
  7.  SABRINA (orchid)
  8.  SPENSER (gray and yellow tartan)
  9.  WILLIAM (chambray oxford)

There are some unique design features associated with certain colors. (and different price points!)  Let’s take a look at the design options more closely:

The NEWEST and MOST Expensive design options are BRYCE, SPENSER and WILLIAM.  These all feature new leather colors, new leather details, and unique fabrics.  These three options are priced at $960.  UppaBaby updated the logo on the canopy for these three color options.  Instead of “UPPABaby” being embroidered in large font, it appears on a small leather tag.  They also changed the color of the logo on the frame, from black to white.

SPENSER is the stand-out stroller in the UppaBaby Vista line-up.  For the first time ever, we have bold, plaid print.  The seat of the stroller, as well as the base of the bassinet, have been updated from the typical black to gray.  SPENSER is the only option that has the gray seat/bassinet base.  Another unique feature to the SPENSER Vista is the moss green leather with yellow contrast stitching on the handle and lap bar.

BRYCE, a white marl, and WILLIAM, a chambray oxford, are the other two new colors of the Vista stroller in 2019.

Aside from the features already mentioned for the three new colors, both BRYCE and WILLIAM have bassinets where the base matches the color of the canopy.  In the remaining versions of the Vista, the base of the bassinet is black.

WILLIAM is a light blue color, and features a navy leather handlebar and lap bar, with contrast stitching in off-white.

The next highest tier of Vista design options are priced at $930:  HENRY & JAKE.

HENRY has a more durable fabric, similar to that of luggage.  JAKE has black fabric and is the only Vista stroller that has a matte black frame.

The remaining color options for the VISTA are priced at $900.

Here are the 6 color options for the CRUZ:

  2.  GREGORY (blue melange)
  3.   JAKE (black)
  4.  JORDAN (charcoal melange)
  5.  SABRINA (orchid)
  6.  LOIC (white)
All of these colors, with the exception of LOIC, can be found on the VISTA (and Vista’s BRYCE is very comparable).  All of these colors options are priced at $550, with the exception of JAKE, which is priced at $580.  Similar to the VISTA, JAKE is priced slightly higher because it features a black frame.

Winner:  UPPAbaby Vista  The UPPAbaby Vista has more design options.  However, it’s subjective that the Vista has the better design options, as it really comes down to personal preference.

Weighs Less?

Cruz:

Frame & Seat: 21.5 pounds

Frame only: 15 pounds

Vista:

Frame & Seat: 26.6 pounds

Frame only: 19.3 pounds

Winner: UPPAbaby Cruz The Cruz weighs 5.1 pounds less than the Vista.

Easier to Fold?

Both the Vista and Cruz have the same process to fold.

To fold, the seat must either be in forward facing position or be removed.  There are slide release triggers on the side of the frame and if the handlebar is in the highest position, then both strollers can stand when folded.

UPPABABY VISTA vs. Cruz FOLDED Comparison

Winner:  Tied  The process to fold is the same in both the Vista and Cruz.  However, it could be argued that the Cruz is easier to fold since it simply weighs less.

Smoother Ride?

Cruz:

  • Front wheels are 7″ and rear wheels are 8.5″
  • No 4-wheel suspension (Front-wheel suspension only)

Vista:

  • Front wheels are 8” and the rear ones are 11.5”.
  • 4-wheel shock-absorbing suspension

Winner:  Vista  The larger wheels and 4-wheel suspension mean the Vista has a smoother ride compared to the Cruz.

Compatible with Car Seats?

Both the Vista and Cruz are compatible with carseats.  The car seat compatibility is the same for both.

Here are a list of car seats that are comptabible with both the Vista and Cruz:

  • UPPAbaby MESA (no adapters required)
  • Chicco KeyFit, KeyFit30 and Fit 2 (need to purchase separate adapter)
  • Clek Liing (need to purchase separate adapter)
  • Cybex Aton and Cloud Q series (need to purchase separate adapter)
  • Maxi-Cosi Mico Max 30, Mico AP, Mico NXT, Mico, Citi, Cabrio and CabrioFix (need to purchase separate adapter)
  • Nuna PIPA, PIPA Lite and PIPA Lite LX (need to purchase separate adapter)
  • Peg-Perego Primo Viaggio 4-35 and 4-35 Nido (need to purchase separate adapter)

Winner:  Tied  The Vista and Cruz can accomodate the same car seats.

Better for a Newborn?

The Vista is appropriate for a newborn right out of the box, since it comes with the bassinet.  The Cruz is not appropriate for a newborn right out of the box.

The seat of the Cruz is suitable for ages 3 months and up.  The same is true for the Vista toddler seat.

However, an “Infant SnugSeat” can be purchased from UPPAbaby for $40, which makes the seat of either the Vista or Cruz compatible for newborns.  Additionally, as mentioned before, the bassinet can also be purchased separately to be used with the Cruz (which still comes out cheaper than the Vista).

Winner:  Vista/Tied  The Cruz can not be used for a newborn right out of the box, while the Vista can.  However, there are accessories that can be purchased separately.

Bigger Basket?

Cruz:

  • 25 pound capacity

Vista:

  •  30 pound capacity

Winner:  Vista  The basket under the stroller is slightly larger on the Vista.

More Compact?

Cruz:

  • Unfolded: 37″L x 22.3″W x 40.5″ H

Vista:

  • Unfolded: 36”L x 25.7”W x 39.5”H

Winner:  Cruz/Tied  In terms of width, the Cruz is more compact, though it’s arguable which is truly more compact, as the Cruz is longer and taller.

Vegan?

Both the Vista and Cruz have leather accents, with no vegan options.

UPPAbaby states on their website that leather offers better “breathability, flexibility and durability than any faux-leather counterparts on the market.”

Winner:  Neither If having a vegan stroller is important to you, neither the UPPAbaby Vista or Cruz are a good option.

UppaBaby Vista vs. Cruz | The Verdict

The Vista and Cruz have many similarities.  However, with the Vista costing almost double the Cruz, you really have to ask yourself if the additional features the Vista offers is worth it to you.  Which stroller is best is really dependent on each family.

It makes sense to choose the Vista over the Cruz if you need the double stroller feature.  But keep in mind the maximum weight of the front seat is only 35 pounds.
